A great tour for adults and children! I drove up from Toronto with my two sons, 8 yrs and 15 yrs. The drive was 1.5 hours, mostly on Highway 400 and it was easy to find the SS Keewatin.
All of us really enjoyed the tour which was given by a young gentleman volunteer. He was very knowledgeable and was able to answer our questions too.
We did the combination tour, which consisted of the upper decks and engine room. The history, the ship's tools, the artifacts, and the ship were all so fascinating. Many of the guests' quarters were arranged to reflect different time periods throughout the SS Keewatin's history. I really liked the open, airy deck with beautiful green plants and lots of sunlight.
This is a great opportunity to explore our history and learn about ship-travel in the early to mid 1900s. Well worth the cost of admission and well worth the drive!
This place is very interesting! They are bringing back to life a luxury liner of the Great Lakes, and you can really imagine the ghosts of the past as they would have danced and dined across the waves. Visiting the boilers and the engine room and seeing the massive pistons moving was awe inspiring. Our tour guide had great knowledge of the ship and related many anecdotes about the crews and passengers of the past.
Fascinating step back in time of a cruise ship older than the Titanic and beautifully preserved. It is amazing how much of the original equipment is still on display and much of it in working order. The dining room is all original. They found the original china stored in boxes behind a closed off room. The steam engine still turns and they demonstrate the propulsion system. Even my wife, who isn’t usually interested in these things, really enjoyed it.
Taken here by my partner as a birthday surprise and absolutely loved it.
The grounds are well managed, the washrooms are clean, and Michelle was a very charming, knowledgeable tour guide (even incorporating the only two small children into the tour by calling them her "first mates" and giving them little tasks to help keep them occupied).
I definitely recommend a visit if you are into marine history, naval history, the Edwardian era, steamships, or history as a general topic.
Wow the history!!! our government should support this heritage don't Let it Go! it's precious what a nice place to visit and the many volunteers the lady was incredibly knowledgeable! that showed us around the ship the entire ship, and we perform on this boat the ukulele group from Kitchener, and and other groups to, it's nice to be a part of it what an honor! to be allowed to play on the ship in greatful!!!🎵🎶🎸🎼💜😀
So much pride and quality has gone into refurbishing this vessel by the volunteers. Terrific tour with knowledgeable guides. Our 2nd visit. The compassion of the volunteers is amazing. Will certainly go back again.
Amazing! This is worth the drive to Port Mcnicholl. Wonderful chapter in Canadian history, alive to see. The tour guides are incredible. Very knowledgeable.
Taking the tour with my children was a captivating experience! Our guide, Liam, was well-spoken and knowledgeable, and made it very entertaining. I highly recommend the experience!
